The last four quarter-final spots will be filled on Wednesday at the Rolex Shanghai Masters as 2019 champion Daniil Medvedev will be joined by seven other players making their debut in the fourth round at the Qizhong Tennis Center. Fourth round action in the top half of the draw features No. 7 seed Alex de Minaur and No. 8 Lorenzo Musetti, who are both trying to earn a spot in the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. In the day session, de Minaur plays Portuguese No. 1 Nuno Borges and No. 15 seed Jiri Lehecka takes on Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech. In the evening session, Musetti takes on No. 12 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime and No. 16 seed Medvedev takes on American teenager Learner Tien, who has won both previous meetings. Rinderknech is appearing in the Shanghai fourth round for the first time (4-2) after wins over Hamad Medjedovic 6-7(3) 1-0 Ret., No. 28 seed Alex Michelsen 6-3 6-4 and No. 3 Alexander Zverev 4-6 6-3 6-2. The 30-year-old Frenchman is 23-25 on the season (11-14 on hard, 6-7 on clay, 6-4 on grass) with his best results the semi-finals in Kitzbuhel (l. to Cazaux) and also the quarter-finals at London/Queen's Club (as a qualifier) where he defeated Opelka and Shelton before losing to eventual champion Alcaraz. Also lost to Alcaraz in 4R at US Open, his best career Grand Slam result. Came in ranked No. 54 and will return to the Top 50 next Monday for the first time since January 2023. Came into this season 0-12 vs. Top 10 opponents but has a 3-6 record with two wins over Zverev (here and Wimbledon) and the other No. 10 Shelton in 1R at London/Queen's Club.
Lehecka is into the fourth round after wins over Quentin Halys 6-4 7-5 and No. 23 seed Denis Shapovalov 6-4 6-4. This is his sixth round of 16 of the nine ATP Masters 1000 events. He is also the fifth Czech to reach the Shanghai R16 after Berdych (2009-15), Stepanek (2009, 2012), Machac and Mensik (2024). Has a 38-18 record this season (26-10 on hard, 7-3 on grass, 5-5 on clay) with his best result coming in the opening week of the season in Brisbane where he won his second career ATP Tour title (d. Opelka-Ret.). His best Grand Slam result was the quarter-finals at the US Open (l. to Alcaraz). Followed by leading Czechia to a 3-2 Davis Cup win over the U.S. in Delray Beach, defeating Tiafoe and Fritz and into the Final Eight in Bologna in November. He will return to Czech No. 1 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings at No. 16 (came in No. 19), passing Jakub Mensik. He will improve his year-end PIF ATP Ranking for the seventh consecutiv year and his previous best was No. 28 last season.
Nuno Borges (POR) vs [7] Alex de Minaur (AUS) -- First Meeting
Borges is appearing in the Shanghai fourth round for the first time after wins over Botic van de Zandschulp 7-6(5) 7-6(5), [LL] Aleksandar Vukic 7-6(7) 6-4 and [WC] Shang Juncheng 7-6(5) 4-6 6-3. The 28-year-old Portuguese No. 1 has won a personal-best 28 matches this season (28-27) with records of 16-13 on hard, 8-10 on clay and 4-4 on grass. His best ATP Tour result is the semi-finals in Auckland (l. to Bergs) and three quarter-finals: on clay in Marrakech and on home soil in Estoril, and on grass in 's-Hertogenbosch.Had a 7-4 record in Grand Slam play with 3R at Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and 2R at US Open. He comes in ranked No. 51 and trying to finish in Top 50 for the second straight season after a year-end best No. 36 last year when he captured his first ATP Tour title in Bastad (d. Nadal).
De Minaur is appearing in the Shanghai fourth round for the first time in four appearances after wins over Camilo Ugo Carabelli 6-4 6-2 win and Kamil Majchrzak 6-1 7-5. The No. 1 Aussie enters with a 49-18 match record on the season (36-11 on hard, 10-5 on clay, 3-2 on grass) and he's closing in on 300 career tour-level wins (298-173). His 49 wins are a personal-best and the most by an Aussie man since Lleyton Hewitt won 68 in 2004. His best result was winning his sixth career ATP Tour title in Washington (d. Davidovich Fokina) in July. Also runner-up in Rotterdam in February (l. to No. 3 Alcaraz) and best Grand Slam results were quarter-finals at Australian Open (l. to No. 1 Sinner) and US Open (l. to Auguer-Aliassime). Looking to finish in Top 10 for second straight year after No. 9 last season.

Auger-Aliassime is playing his first tournament as a newlywed after getting married on Sept. 21 to Nina Ghaibi in Marrakech, Morocco. He has posted wins over [Q] Alejandro Tabilo 6-3 6-3 and Jesper de Jong 6-4 7-5 to reach fourth round in Shanghai for the first time. His win over Tabilo was the 250th tour-level win of his career (now 251-166), becoming second Canadian man to reach that milestone along with Milos Raonic (383). The Canadian No. 1 is on a 10-2 run since start of August with both losses to No. 1 Sinner at ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati QF and US Open SF, which was his second career Grand Slam SF (2021 US Open). He comes in with a 36-19 match record on the season (27-10 on hard, 6-4 on grass, 3-5 on clay) with two titles: Adelaide (d. Korda) and Montpellier (d. Kovacevic) and also a runner-up in Dubai (l. to Tsitsipas). Also trying to qualify for his second Nitto ATP Finals in Turin after his 2022 debut (went 1-2).
Musetti is appearing in the fourth round for the first time after wins over Francisco Comesana 6-4 6-0 and No. 26 seed countryman Luciano Darderi 7-5 7-6(1). The 23-year-old Italian has the second-most ATP Masters 1000 wins this season with 19, trailing only Carlos Alcaraz (21), highlighted by a runner-up in Monte-Carlo (l. to Alcaraz). He also was a semi-finalist in Madrid and Rome. He became first Italian to reach all three clay ATP Masters 1000 and Roland Garros semi-finals in one season. He broke into Top 10 in May after Rome and then reached a career-high No. 6 after his SF showing at Roland Garros. He is attempting to reach his first Masters 1000 QF on hard courts since 2022 Paris-Bercy. He is trying to qualify for the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals in Turin and holds the No. 8 and final position, 630 points ahead of No. 10 Auger-Aliassime.

The 19-year-old American has posted wins over Miomir Kecmanovic 4-6 6-3 6-4 in 1R, No. 33 seed Corentin Moutet 4-6 6-4 6-4 in 2R and No. 30 seed Cameron Norrie in 3R. In August, he reached 4R at Masters 1000 Toronto (l. to Michelsen). He is one of five teenagers to reach R16 in tournament history (since 2009) and trying to become second teenager in QF, joining Jakub Mensik (19) last year (l. to Djokovic). Has a 26-21 match record on the season (21-12 on hard, 4-3 on grass, 1-6 on clay) and has 5 wins over Top 10 opponents, including over No. 5 Medvedev in 2R at Australian Open in January en route to 4R as a Q to become
youngest man to defeat a Top-5 player at AO in ATP Rankings history (since 1973). Last week reached his first ATP Tour final in Beijing (l. to Sinner) after wins over No. 9 Musetti (QF) and No. 18 Medvedev (SF). Moved from No. 52 to a career-high No. 36 afterwards. Medvedev improved to 12-4 in Shanghai with a 6-3 7-6(5) win over No. 18 seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Monday and opened with a 6-1 6-1 win over qualifier Dalibor Srvcina on Saturday. The 2019 champion was one of three former winners in the draw (also Djokovic, Sinner) and leads the ATP Tour in hard-court wins since 2018 (296). He is 32-20 overall this season, including 21-13 on hard courts (6-4 on clay, 5-3 on grass), the eighth straight year he's won 20+ matches on hard courts. He is 6-2 on the China swing after advancing to Hangzhou QF and Beijing SF in last two tournaments. Has played in 50 tournaments since winning his last title in 2023 ATP Masters 1000 Rome (d. Rune). His best result this season is a runner-up in Halle (l. to Bublik). Also semi-finalist in Marseille (l. to Medjedovic), ATP Masters 1000 Indian Wells (l. to Rune) and last week in Beijing (ret. vs Tien).
