Four-time Rolex Shanghai Masters champion Novak Djokovic, No. 4 Taylor Fritz, No. 6 Ben Shelton and No. 10 Holger Rune are on Friday's Stadium Court second round schedule. No. 2 seed Jannik Sinner, who is also in the bottom of the draw, will begin his title defense on Saturday. Overall there are 16 seeds in action. Here are Friday's Stadium Court match-ups in order of play:

* [6] Ben Shelton (USA) vs David Goffin (BEL) -- Goffin leads 1-0 (2025 Acapulco 2R, Goffin 7-6(3) 6-3)

SHELTON
- The 22-year-old American returns to play for the first time since August 29 when he retired with a left shoulder injury after four sets (tied 2-2) in his third round match at the US Open against Adrian Mannarino. Withdrew from Davis Cup tie vs. Czechia, Laver Cup and Tokyo before coming to Shanghai.
- “It is getting there,” Shelton told ATP Media in his Tuesday pre-tournament media day when discussing his shoulder injury. “As any injury, it takes time to recover. I wouldn’t show up to a tournament unless I thought I was ready and that is why I skipped a few, but I should be ready to go now.”
- The No. 2 American (behind No. 5 Fritz) comes in with a 37-18 match record this season, including 24-9 on hard courts and he captured his biggest career title at ATP Masters 1000 title Toronto (d. But I played a really good match there. Ben is having an unbelievable year, with some great results. But he's coming back from injuries. His strange injury on his shoulder at the US Open like everybody saw. But we will see. Ben is a great player, great server as well, and I will try to play some great tennis like today, and hopefully I can play, have the same result as the beginning of the year."
