A study by the Shanghai Juss Sports Development (Group) Co. Ltd in association with relevant parties of the Rolex Shanghai Masters has meant the 2021 edition of the award-winning tournament will not be staged.
In an effort to stage the Rolex Shanghai Masters to the highest standards set by the organising committee, Juss Sports has always maintained close communication with the ATP, the General Administration of Sport of China, the Chinese Tennis Association, the Shanghai Administration of Sports, as well as other associated organizations.
"The Rolex Shanghai Masters has always operated to the highest standards and we are all very sad that we had to make such a decision," Tournament Director Michael Luevano said. "Our wonderfully enthusiastic fans who have always enjoyed a top-level experience at Asia's most prestigious ATP event will be incredibly disappointed."
The Rolex Shanghai Masters formulated COVID-19 precautionary measures and regulations after considering numerous scenarios, with the health and safety of all involved remaining the primary concern.
At present, the pandemic situation in China is down to sporadic cases but the situation overseas remains at very high levels. China's strict international travel restrictions are yet to be lifted and, with that in mind, the tournament is unfortunately not in a position to bring players into the country and allow fans to enjoy the top-level experience as they always do at Asia's most prestigious ATP event.
After extensive studies between Juss Sports and its partners, it has been agreed that now is not the ideal time to stage the 2021 Rolex Shanghai Masters.
Juss Sports and everyone associated with Asia's only ATP Masters 1000 expresses sadness and deep regret at having to make this decision.
There is no hesitation from fans, players, sponsors and everyone associated with the tournament to see the resumption of international tennis in China and the continued development of tennis across the nation.
Despite having to convey this sad information, everyone can be assured the Rolex Shanghai Masters is already looking ahead to October 2022, when the tournament will return and showcase the excitement and brilliant tennis Shanghai and China have come to expect at QiZhong Tennis Centre.
